In Their Own Words....

My name is Ali....

My name is Ali, I come from Iraq. There is lots of fighting in my country. We were very frightened. I came here with my mum and sister to be safe. We are staying with some nice people but we don't have any money yet. We have a food parcel to share with the people who we are living with.

My name is E....

I have learning disabilities. I am 53 years old. I lived with my mum until she died. I had to move then because they said the house could be used for a family. I was offered a one bedroom flat in a different area. There were a lot of drugs going round, and in the flat below always noise and parties. I got broken into lots of times. I was afraid and asked to move but was told I couldn't. In the end I couldn't stand it any longer. I was always afraid of all the shouting. They were always drunk and making fun of me. I just walked out one day - became homeless. The Paradise Run helped me and took me to a hostel. I have been in my new flat for a while now. The people there are nice. I'm happy.

My name is J....

I found myself homeless through alcohol. I had my own business. Things were going really well. I had a lovely wife and a beautiful daughter. This is my story: My wife and child were killed in a car accident. I took to drink to comfort myself. My mother was a tower of strength. I coped, just to keep going. Not long after, my dear mum passed away. It was more than I could cope with. I drank heavier than ever. It was what pulled me through my grief. The business suffered. Bills mounted up. I couldn't cope. Finally the house was repossessed. Drink became my comfort. Now it is all I have.

Our names are D.... and A....

We've known Elizabeth for four years and have been coming to the soup run and the Saturday Service for the last three years. Last year we got married at the registry office and then had a blessing and service at Dewi Sant Church where the Saturday Service is held. The volunteers also arranged our reception. We are both happy that the future is beginning to change.

Whatever you did for one of the least of  these, you did for me
